GENETIC TESTING

Genetic Testing is a controversial topic for many in the breeding community. Opinions range from a strict emphasis to only breed those considered to be "triple clear", while others pay no regard to genetic testing, and the many variations in between.

Our kennel is one that values the work of genetic testing and the insight it provides, but also understands that genetic testing is in a large part based on probability rather than absolutes. For this reason, we do our best to pair only those that we believe will produce healthy litters, but also do not restrict our breeding adults to only those that genetic tests deem as "triple clear". If we as a breeder chose only to pair adults whose testing reflected triple clear, nearly 90% of the entire breed would be restricted, including many Champion(s) and Champion line(s). Those who solely breed based off of the criteria of a genetic test result, and negate the other qualities and variables of a purebred Pembroke Welsh Corgi, are doing the breed a great disservice.

We base our decisions on many variables: overall health, temperament, breed standard and individual traits / characteristics such as coloring and coat. When we look at a pairing, we take into consideration a great number of variables and work to produce litters that will better the Pembroke Welsh Corgi breed.
